This is all making sense now, that’s where they are going. Man, so if CFD has determined after all this time that the general shape of an LMP car is like this (not that far off what they had in the 70's), then these will look like this forever with minor upgrades as technology improves. I have been thinking about this, when tech reaches it’s most efficient in aero, that’s it, we can’t change the atmosphere of Earth and a car has to pass through it at speed. Materials and drivetrain/energy tech is all that can change. They can get lighter etc... Just a thought...

“Materials and drivetrain/energy tech is all that can change.”

And rules. Very important, those. People often don’t realise that since at least the Sixties the main purpose of design rules for any given series has been to slow the cars down from the very achievable too-fast-to-be-safe speeds that they’d otherwise be reaching.

Oh that’s true, or we would have those Newey Grand Tourismo cars that would turn Humans into jello. Thats the other wall we hit (avoiding a wall actually), we can’t be too good or our soft bodies become chum.

Maybe it’s just me, but these cars look nothing like cars of the 70s. Heck, they even look different than cars of the late Group C/WSC era. The growth of ground effect, then the restrictions on underbody tunnels, have fundamentally changed the shape of sports prototypes. Pontoon fenders, waisted bodies, all of this is design strategy which is 15 years old at most. The Allard J2x may be the birth of what now looks like the modern sports prototype.

Graeme is one of the most honest people I have met in this business, and interviewing him last year was a treat. I hope I can work with the new Manor. Also, the old Manor that is in F1

Uh it’s basically a bubble in the middle and the fenders and wing all generally the same. Yeah the aero is more advanced but you must be blind if you think the layout of these cars is really different. They covered the cockpit and air can flow through the car more and more as time goes on. I don’t see much of a difference. And with the rules to keep Humans in one piece, I don’t see how they can change much beyond what we have now, CFD is maxed out I would think. Nissan tried something new and then quit.

Its the same story everywhere, by that logic. Physics is kinda constant.
